The combination of Kojic acid, Azealic acid, Lactic acid, Citric acid and with or without hydroquinone helps to exfoliate, lighten, inhibit hyperpigmentation and age spots.  I like this product best as a spot treatment.  Use nightly.  Can be used Am and Pm but will see some peeling.  Hydroquinone not recomended for those who get alot of sun exposure.
